Who is Lilith?

Everyone knows the story of Adam and Eve. But did you know that before Eve, there was Lilith?
Lilith was Adam's first wife in the Garden of Eden. When she asked to be treated as an equal, Adam refused. Rather than accept a lesser role, Lilith chose to leave the garden and forge her own path. For centuries her story was suppressed and she was painted as a villain: wild, dangerous and defiant. In truth, she was simply the first woman to refuse to be diminished.
Lilith was independent, powerful and unapologetically herself. She embraced her wisdom, her strength and her divine femininity in a world that told her to be quiet.
We chose her as our symbol because we believe that beauty should do the same. It should empower, not conform. It should nurture, not harm. It should be honest, not manufactured.

A Family That
Did Things Differently

Welcome to a little bit about us! As a family, we are a bit unusual. We left the UK in 2002 when Maddie was just four years old, with what was originally meant to be an eight-month camper van trip around New Zealand. We fell in love with the country and ended up officially settling in the North Island. We have a full blog post all about our life there too. We are a mother and daughter team, passionate about helping people understand what is truly in their mainstream skincare and home fragrance, whilst offering high-quality, award-winning alternatives that are clean, conscious and genuinely good for you.

When Health
Changed Everything

It was in Shanghai where Sarah and Maddie started to become unwell. Hitting puberty is what seemingly triggered Maddie's thyroid disorder. At around the age of 13, her health took a turn for the worse. Chronic fatigue hit her the hardest and fastest, and anyone who has experienced chronic fatigue knows how soul-destroying and draining it can truly be. All the while Maddie was struggling with her symptoms, so was Sarah. She did what any mother would do and put her daughter first, working full time whilst quietly dealing with her own declining health. It was only around six years later, with Maddie back in the UK and Sarah still in Shanghai, that Sarah had the idea to be tested for the same thyroid disorder. Surprise, surprise: she was diagnosed with the same illness.

The Research That
Changed Our Lives

Sarah read countless books and spent hours researching how to help Maddie, all whilst not doing so well herself. Through this research, one of the most common and highly recommended steps was to go gluten free. Maddie remembers being told she needed to give up gluten at around 14 or 15. She cried. What about bread and pasta? Little did we know that this would be the biggest and most important turning point of our lives. It opened up a whole new world: understanding the importance of what we put in and on our bodies, awareness of chemical and heavy metal exposure, and living a compassionate, health and climate-conscious lifestyle by going vegan. It really opened a can of worms for us, and we would not change it for the world.
Our Story - Part IV

A Brave and Personal Choice

Things got tough when Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer, twice. The first time was in 2012, and the second in 2016. As you can imagine, it was incredibly hard on our whole family, especially the second time round. Having the intuition she did around natural healing, it was very difficult for Sarah to submit to chemotherapy and radiation therapy. But the doctors were certain it would cure the cancer and it would never return. So, somewhat against her inner guidance, Sarah went through the process. Once it was all over, she worked hard on eating more naturally, taking herbs and supplements and beginning a deep inner journey of changing beliefs, behaviours and habits. Whilst this really improved her Hashimoto's, the cancer returned. After a mastectomy, her oncologist advised a harsh and rigorous regimen of chemotherapy. At this point, Sarah faced a deeply challenging and terrifying choice. Should she once again go against her inner guidance and follow the doctor's powerful recommendations, or follow her own path of natural healing? With the full support of her family, she chose to trust in Mother Nature, her inner wisdom and the calling of her Higher Self. More than six years after her second diagnosis, she is stronger, happier and healthier than ever before.

Lilith Natural Beauty was born from this lived experience, and from a shared vision between Sarah and Maddie: to bring the message of Lilith and the power of nature to all those in need of a healthy and empowering alternative to the mass-produced beauty products that are damaging our planet and potentially contributing to the ill health of so many of us. Every product we create carries the weight of our own healing. We want our products to bring confidence and independence, to help people find the courage and power to live the lives they want to live, be who they want to be and feel beautiful in their own skin.
